katy chan- self taught photographer.

This woman is an inspiration to everyone who has ever held a camera. she has never studied photography in her life yes still churns out such art. i came across her while looking at a website called hot one ten, to be completely honest ive no idea how i even came across this website but still. so, i found an interview where she basically explains her work and what she does and i instinantly loved her style.

In the interview she says "I have a hard time telling people that I am a “photographer” because like I say I’ve never studied photography - formally. My philosophy is that anyone can take photographs and a lot of people can take nice photographs, but only half of those people can make a decent living off of it - very few can be photographic superstars".

I thought this was really honest, and although i do art and i aspire to be a photographer one day, hence why i plan to study this at university i really agree with what she says, that anyone can take a photograph but it takes skill to make a living off it.

THIS is her website, its pretty cool.
Heres a few examples of her work.

The above photo was inspired by the post about urban ghost where the photographer had held the camera lower so the subject was unaware that the photograph was being taken.

urban ghost- street photography.

This website astounds me. I found it on my art courses blog and i love it, some of the photographs tell such a story of how the photographer took them as angles are not face on in some. A few are taken for below as if the photographer was holding the camera with his arms straight down so the subject was unaware of the photograph.
HERE is the link, its a really good set of images.

This is one of my favorites.

grave yard dolls.

The other day, Thursday i think, i found some dolls in the art cupboard that looked a little scary so i thought i would take them to the graveyard next door and take some interesting photographs. I'm really pleased with the outcome. They definitely look creepy.

rainy days mean a very bored tash.

Today i got a bit bored as it was a pretty dreary day so i figured i'd whip out the camera and have a snap of outside and inside.

I like this one because it shows me and most people my age perfectly doing what they do best, sitting back feet up chilling.

Todays weather, horrible and wet!

effects to spontanious photography.

The above two photographs show the subjects unaware that a photograph is being taken, they react naturally, doing whatever. Although they still are hidden from the camera this is what i caught them doing so it is not staged.

The above two photographs show peoples reactions to photographs when they know they are being taken, some peoples initial reaction is to hide from the camera.

Juan Francisco Casas.

This man is my idol, he takes pictures of people and draws and paints huge copies in such detail. He has done work for playboy and other magazines. Juan Francisco Casas Ruiz was born in La Carolina, JaƩn, 21 September 1976.
I came across his work when a facebook friend posted a link to a website displaying some of his work. I really enjoyed looking at his paintings and drawings and i think that my new project kind of relates to his work in the sense that i am now studying people, their faces and their reactions to camera's.
Here are a few examples of his work, i had to select carefully because some can be quite indecent.

Karl Taylor.

I found these photographs on the internet looking at landscape photography and i really enjoyed there two. Thie first is a litttle similar to the photo's i took at Arbury woods due to the main focus on the fields and the crops.

The secnd is a little less relevent but i really liked the format and the composition. The colours are beautiful.

John Burton Griffiths.

John Burton Griffiths is a landscape photographer.

I found his work while looking on the internet for examples of images to compare mine to.

This one is a personal favorouite i really like the composition and the comlours used. im not sure whether he edits his photo's but they are beautiful non the less.

David Hockney

David Hockey is an artist who's work is quite similar to mine for a few reasons.

He has experimented with distorting images and i have looked at him before because of this but also because he does landscape photographs.
Below is a photograph of David painting in some woods.

Here is another painting of his, alothough his are done in a different style i still like his paitings.

Below is an example of David's photograph work where he takes a photo and makes it look distorted. In my sketchbook tthere are a few similar expamples of this that i have done.
